December 200112/15--HOLIDAY PARTY. We went to Ryan's Family Steakhouse in Morrow to have our annual holiday party. We like Ryan's because it's all we can eat. And we can eat! 12/01--THERAPAWS. On Saturday, Dec. 1, the East Atlanta Kids Club enjoyed another visit from Therapaws, an all-volunteer therapy dog group. The kids learned about humane pet care and pet safety, and also saw the dogs perform some agility exercises. A dog rescue activist warned the kids about dog fighting. November 200111/10 & 11/11--OVERNIGHT TRIP. The East Atlanta Kids Club went on a fun overnight trip to the Smoky Mountains in North Carolina, staying in a lodge in the Nantahala River Gorge. We went hiking along the Nantahala, roasted marshmallows around a campfire, and wondered if the bears were going to come eat us. (We didn't. We were too noisy). October 200110/31/01--TRICK OR TREAT. The East Atlanta Kids Club had a short Halloween party at the Brownwood Park Recreation Center at 5 p.m. and then went trick or treating in the neighborhood from 5:30 - 7 p.m. September 20019/29/01--STRUT YOUR STUFF. The East Atlanta Kids Club participated in East Atlanta Village Strut, a parade and festival that goes on all day. The Club practiced some moves that go along with a chant from a rap song ("Batter Up," by Nelly, which samples lines from "The Jeffersons" theme song). The kids wore red, white and blue and as many baseball caps as we could round up. On Saturday, we met at Brownwood Park at 10 am, painted faces, and got their moves together. Volunteers picked up kids who needed a ride. We congregated at the Boys & Girls Club (at the corner of Berne and Warren Streets, about a mile west of the park) until 11 am when the parade began its march to East Atlanta. On the way, a panel of judges took notes on each group's strut. The East Atlanta Kids Club hoped to win the trophy for Best Kid Strut (won for the previous three years). Some also brought their pet and dressed him/her up because there was also a prize for Best Pet Strut! |
