After a year away, East Atlanta Kids Club moved back to its home at Brownwood Recreation Center in early August.
EAKC, which has been based at Brownwood for most of the past 11 years, is entering into a new operating and lease agreement with City of Atlanta, Dept. of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs, to manage and run the recreation center. The agreement was approved by the Atlanta City Council on July 20.
Kids Club will be working closely with the East Atlanta Community Association and other leaders in the community to bring back to the recreation center not only its after-school tutoring, mentoring, fitness and enrichment programs for youth, but also many other activities that the community wishes to see at Brownwood. More activities will be added as funds and resources allow.
Renovations of the facility are in full swing. Kids Club, with the help of partners Deloitte Consulting, U.S. MicroCorp and Cbeyond, has painted the facility, installed new carpet, built a storage room, and upgraded the center’s computer lab and technology network.
We have a wish list of things and services needed for the center. Click here to see the list.
We look forward to working with the community to make many more great things happen at Brownwood!
Come see the new space and meet some new friends at our Brownwood Open House on Saturday, Sept. 26, from 11 am to 1pm. Friends of Brownwood Park is also hosting a picnic in the Brownwood Park Pavilion, as part of the Park Pride 20/20 event, featuring 20 picnics in 20 parks, and celebrating the 20th anniversary of Park Pride.
