Next Tuesday, a group of East Atlanta young people will walk their own sort of red carpet when a documentary they produced makes its Atlanta premier at The Earl.
East Atlanta: Goin’ Through Some Change is a 30-minute documentary produced by members of the East Atlanta Kids Club, a nonprofit mentoring and enrichment program for disadvantaged kids in the neighborhood. Two dozen club members interviewed residents, business owners and community leaders to explore the changing demographics and look of East Atlanta, along with a glimpse into the community’s future.
The film was chosen as a finalist in the International Youth Media Festival recently in San Francisco and five club members got to participate in six days of festival activities there.
The documentary makes its Atlanta premier Tuesday at The Earl, 488 Flat Shoals Ave. Visitors can meet and mingle the young filmmakers starting at 7 p.m. with the film beginning at 8 p.m. East Atlanta resident and Kids Club volunteer veteran Sauda will treat guests to live music after the film. Admission is $10.
