Kids Make Documentary About East Atlanta

And Take Part in International Youth Media Festival in San Francisco

Thanks to a generous $5,000 grant from the Salesforce.com Foundation, more than two dozen East Atlanta youth were able to participate in the making of a 30-minute documentary film about their community. "East Atlanta: Goin Through Some Changes" explores the history and current state of affairs in the neighborhood, including the comings and goings of people, businesses and social traditions.

In the fall of 2004, five kids and two staff members of East Atlanta Kids Club had the privilege of participating in the week-long International Youth Media Festival in San Francisco, CA. Their film was screened at the festival, along with film and web projects created by youth from many other countries, including England, Ireland, Japan, Germany, Israel and the Palestinian territories. It was an experience that those of us who went will never forget.

The film was also shown locally at The Earl in East Atlanta. The Atlanta premiere, sponsored by The Sembler Company, was also an incredible evening that brought diverse members of the community together.

You can see the film as well as video footage from our trip to San Francisco on the latest version of our DVD, which is available at retailers in East Atlanta including Joe's Coffee, Trader's, and the East Atlanta Copy Center.
