Brownwood Bike Rally A great day of cycling, community and fun - for kids and adults The annual bike rally is organized by the East Atlanta Kids Club and includes bike races for kids on the streets around the park, as well as cross-track races for adults (on a course that includes both street and dirt trail racing). Kids also try their luck in the bike rodeo, practicing a variety of bike agility moves and showing off their knowledge of bike safety. The adult races features some of the fastest cyclists in the state this year, as well as some of the funkiest. The Adult Fun Race includes contestants on all sorts of bikes, including unicycles and tandems. The Cross-Track Criterium races follow a course on the streets around the park as well as a dirt trail inside the park.
The Board ‘n Bike Stunt team thrills the crowd with high-flying, gasp-producing aerial stunts, as well as cool ground tricks on BMX-style bikes. Bike Rally photos by Terance Johnson |
Youth members of the East Atlanta Kids Club, based at Brownwood Recreation Center, spend several weeks before the rally learning safe cycling practices, repairing their bikes, and cycling around the city.
The bike rally, as well as the year-round cycling program of EAKC, has grown dramatically over the last few years with the help of several key partners, including REI-Atlanta, Sopo Bike Co-op, Metro Atlanta Cycling Club, Pacesetter Steel Cycling Club, and Atlanta Pro Bicycles.
