The Friendship Connection
Our one-on-one mentoring program, The Friendship Connection, allows an adult to get to know a particular child and to establish a meaningful, long-term relationship. Over the course of one or more years, caring adult mentors help youth to build communication and relationship skills, to pursue personal , academic and career goals, and to build up confidence, love and respect for themselves and others.
Adults and youth make a minimum one-year commitment to the relationship. The expectation is that Friendship Connection mentors will spend at least 5 hours per month with their same-gender mentee, engaging them in fun, educational and healthy activities.
Our youth members who are currently matched with a Friend tell us they treasure these friendships. Currently about 30% of the youth in our program are on the waiting list for a mentor.
Adults who wish to become a one-on-one mentor must undergo a background check and attend a volunteer orientation for the Friendship Connection program, currently offered once a month. Please consult our program calendar to find the next Friendship Connection (FC) orientation date.
If you would like to get the process going, Register To Volunteer.
