EAKC Seeks Your Ideas on Mural Project at
The East Atlanta Kids Club would like your thoughts on a proposed Community Mural Project for Brownwood Park. EAKC is working with a local artist and a media group to support the youth in our after-school program (and others in the East Atlanta community) to design, paint and install a mural with the theme of “Doing Good In Your Community.” The mural is planned to be installed along a fence line in the north end of the park. The mural could be installed temporarily (for 1 to 3 months) or permanently, if the community is in favor of the project. With this is mind, EAKC is seeking community and city input on, participation in, and approval for the mural project.
The current plan is for youth enrolled in EAKC to learn about creating murals and to develop a concept for the mural in a series of classes with Atlanta artist Brandon Sadler to be held at East Atlanta Kids Club’s program site at Brownwood Recreation Center, from 8/26/14 to 9/30/14, on Tuesdays, from 3:30 pm to 5:30pm. Other children in the community are also welcome to attend.
Once the design is finalized, the mural would be painted by any children and adults in the community who would like to participate. The painting and installation is currently planned for Saturday, October 4, from 9am to 12pm. Also, at the same time on October 4, the project’s sponsor, Allstate Insurance, plans to support another park clean-up or beautification project, which will be supported by volunteers from Allstate, EAKC and other community volunteers. The event will culminate in a cook-out and celebration in the Brownwood Park pavilion, to which all in the community are invited.
